Letter to Cadburys Chocolate Factory!

As part of their work within the "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" topic, Primary 5/4 have been looking at the manufacture and marketing of various chocolate products. The class wrote letters to Cadburys to enquire how they actually go about designing and making their chocolate bars.

Elyse's letter was chosen as the one to represent the whole class and she and Eva got to walk to the post office with Mrs Cleary. As you can see they were well wrapped up for their walk through the village.

A Chocolate Treat!

Primary 5/4 were over the moon to welcome in Mr Maule, chef and owner of the award-winning french restaurant Chardon D'Or which can be found at 176 West Regent Street, Glasgow.  Mr Maule is better known to our pupils as "Eilidh and Bryony's Dad" and P5/4 invited them into their class as part of their topic on "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".

Pupils learned more about a variety of cooking skills, how to plate and serve food to restaurant standard and about the benefits of using certain utensils.  With regards to enterprise and the world of business they also learned how using the correct utensils can minimise waste which can have a knock-on effect on the finances of any business.  Pupils were extremely impressed to hear that Mr Maule worked at Le Gavroche with Michel Roux for 11 years and they were treated to a cookery demo and tasting session which they thoroughly enjoyed.  In line with their "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" topic, Mr Maule made them a fine chocolate mousse served with pistachio cream.  He also gave them an insight into how the same basic dish can be adapted to suit summer or winter menus.  As you can see from below the pupils declared the event a resounding success.  We pass on their thanks to Mr Maule for taking time out of his busy schedule to share his knowledge and experiences.
